Hacker Ethics
- 0001 – Hands On Imperative – Access to computers—and anything which might teach something— should be unlimited and total. Always yield to the Hands-On Imperative!
- 0010 – Freedom Of information – Information wants to be free. All information should be freely accessible by anyone anytime.
- 0011 – Mistrust Authority - The best way to promote the free exchange of information is to have an open system that presents no boundaries on the quest for knowledge. Bureaucracies, whether corporate, government, or university, are flawed systems
- 0100 – No Bogus Criteria -Judge only by ones hacking skill, not criteria such as degrees, age, race, sex, or position.
- 0101 – The Beauty Of Code – You can create truth and beauty on a computer.
- 0110 – Promote Positive Change – Computers can change your life for the better.
- 0111 – Exceed Limitations – True skill comes in exceeding limitations
- 1000 – The Communicational Imperative – People have the right to communicate freely and unrestrictive.
- 1001 – Waste not, want not – Computer resources should not lie idle and wasted.
- 1010 – Above all else, do no harm - Do not damage people, computers, or data.
